Referrals

What happens after we receive your referral?

Urgent Referral Patients

If you meet the definition of an urgent referral (i.e., imminent medical treatment that will jeopardize reproductive potential), we will see you within 24-48 hours.

New Patients

Once Ottawa Fertility Centre (OFC) receives your referral, you can expect:

1. We will review the referral information for completeness.

  • A request will be sent to your referring physician if any additional information is required.
  • We will also send your referring physician a letter confirming that we have accepted your referral.

2. We will triage your referral by level of urgency and create an OFC patient chart for you. You will then receive a phone call from our booking team to provide you the next steps and schedule your first consultation.

3. An email through Ocean will be sent to your email address provided by your referring physician.

  • This email consists of three consent forms as well as a health intake questionnaire that must be completed prior to your consultation.
  • It is necessary we receive these completed forms back before we can schedule an appointment.
  • Check your junk mail for this email.

Returning Patients

If it has been more than 2 years since we have last seen you, we require a new referral from your physician. Once we receive your referral, you will receive a phone call from your physician's office to schedule your returning consultation.
