Dr. Doron Shmorgun
Family is the most important aspect of my life and helping individuals build their families is what drives me every day. Fertility work is a unique combination of medicine, basic science and raw human emotions. The intersection of these areas creates opportunities for a fascinating and rewarding career.
Dr. Doron Shmorgun completed his training at McMaster University, and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 2007. In August 2009, he completed a two year subspecialty fellowship in Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (GREI) at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Shmorgun is currently an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa, an attending physician at the Ottawa Hospital, and a consultant and partner at the Ottawa Fertility Centre. He is certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Shmorgun is also certified in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound. He is an active member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Until 2017 he was the program director for the University of Ottawa residency training program in GREI, and remains actively involved in education of medical trainees.
Dr. Shmorgun is passionate about improving the care couples at the OFC receive as well as their experience of that care. His practice includes all areas of reproductive care, with a particular interest in in-vitro fertilization and male factor infertility. His research is focused on assessment of current and novel practices in fertility therapy and continuous quality improvement at the clinic level. Dr. Shmorgun is constantly striving to improve clinical workflow at the Ottawa Fertility Center in order to optimize patient experience.
Dr. Shmorgun moved to Ottawa in 2007 after growing up in Toronto and completing most of his education in Hamilton. He has found Ottawa to be a perfect place to raise a family as it has a small town feel with all the amenities of a larger city. When he’s not working. Dr. Shmorgun enjoys playing hockey, skiing, spending time at my cottage on a stand up paddleboard, playing tennis and supporting his daughters’ passions for hockey and horseback riding.
